Past Projects

Below are some photos of  past projects and a brief description of the project or photo.

Grand Coulee 94-98 Stator Replacement
Owner: US Bureau of Reclamation - Grand Coulee WA
Client: Siemens Power Corp - Mil. WI
SCL scope:  Welding inspection, QA, NDE, Engineering support

This photo shows the removal of one of the old GE 700 Mw stators at Grand Coulee Dam in 1995.
Subsequently two more stators in the Third Powerhouse at Grand Coulee were upgraded by late 1997.   The upper yellow part is a 1700 ton Gantry Crane. The arms attached to the frame are part of a 250,000 # lifting fixture assembled at site.

A few months later a rebuilt stator using the old GE frame was installed... with an output of 805mw!!!!

Misc Photos

Installation of the unit # 1 rotor at Casecnan in the Philippines.  Casecnan is a 2 x 90 Mw underground powerhouse.  The turbine generators were recently commissioned after waiting about a year for completion of the 22 km water supply tunnel from the Casecnan River.

This is an infrared image of the 'core seasoning' (at
80° C).  This is done after core stacking but before the winding is installed.   Usually the core needs a slight re-torquing after this process.  (Actual stator above)

Here is a rare old photo of the original Raccoon Mtn. stators that were manufactured by Siemens AG in Germany approximately 27 years ago.  To see their replacements being installed see below.

TVA Raccoon Mountain Pumped Storage Stator Replacements
Owner: TVA Raccoon Mt. -Chat TN.tanooga
OEM: Alstom Power Inc. - Denver CO.
Client: White Engineering Consultants - Grand Coulee  WA
SCL scope: QA, Welding Inspection, NDE, Supervision & Engineering support.

In 2001 & 2002 SCL supported the site assembly and installation of the units 1,4 & 3 on the stator upgrade at the Raccoon Mountain Pumped Storage Plant between Dec 2000 and Dec 2002.  The project is located at the TVA Raccoon Mountain plant in Chattanooga, TN.

Work is nearly on the installation of unit 2.   SCL will not have scope for this final unit.

Below are some photos of these first three units, in which, SCL was involved.

SCL provided the following support services: Quality Programs, NDE, Welding Engineering, inspection, and technical/engineering support for installation.

This is the installation of the first new stator at TVA's Raccoon Mt. Pumped Storage Plant in January 2001.

Here is the stator when first lifted from the assembly pedestals.

Southeastern Hose (Source Inspection)

This project included, site surveillance during manufacture, PT testing, and witness of welding and pressure tests.
