3,984,987  Silt & Pollution Control for Marine Facility
This invention was for a movable silt barrier in wet and dry docks.  The intent was to permit a ship to enter the dock, the barrier would be closed and silt would be held out but water could flow in and out with the tides. The barrier floated on the water, was attached to the dock with vertical sliding retainers and the opening held together with magnets.  Yes, this was first patent on a floating pollution 'boom' which was a sub claim of the invention. Sun built a prototype (full-scale) at the Chester PA ship yard.  As inventor I got a $1.00 - Sun made millions selling the patent.  Shorter versions of this are now used to contain massive oil and chemical spills
